Acupuncture for arthritis – proven to reduce pain

There are many natural ways of dealing with arthritis pain. Acupuncture for arthritis is a traditional Chinese procedure developed in the sixteenth century, where thin needles are inserted into certain points of the body, called energy meridians. Acupuncture has shown not only to reduce pain, but to actually improve the function of joints such as the knees.

Acupuncture for arthritis can unblock the flow of energy, or “chi” through the body. Blocked energy, the Chinese believe, can cause discomfort and disease. This modality is now widely accepted by western medicine. The traditional medical explanation for the effectiveness of acupuncture is that it causes the brain to release endorphins, or natural chemical pain blockers, to the affected areas.

Will acupuncture for arthritis work for you? It seems to work for most people to varying degrees. It’s certainly worth a try if it saves you from swallowing yet another pain killer. Acupuncture itself does not hurt, although those with a fear of needles may have some hesitation in trying it!

Studies performed by the US National Institute of Health has demonstrated that acupuncture for arthritis can decrease pain and improve mobility by an average of 40 percent. These figures are huge when you consider there are no side effects with this procedure. The only downside is that treatments may have to be continued for some months which may prove costly. However this could be offset by a savings on pain medication.

You can safely combine acupuncture for arthritis in combination with any current treatment, including any drug treatments for arthritis you are currently using. I would certainly recommend giving it a try. If you decide it is not for you, there is no harm done. Acupuncture for arthritis is completely safe as disposable needles are now used.

  1. If you have arthritis, I don’t see any reason for you not to try acupuncture. Studies already proved that it is indeed safe and can help to treat this illness. Just make sure that you’ll go in a licensed acupuncturist.
